Meetings Matter: 8 Powerful Strategies for Remarkable Conversations
Paul Axtell, Corvallis, OR: Jackson Creek Press (2015)

“Traditionally we think of working the room as a way of circulating among people at a large gathering. In the context of meetings, it makes sense to look working the room in a more focused way. Consider working the room to cover all the conversations before and after the meeting that allow you to meet or reconnect with people.

  • Take the initiative. It begins with intention. Once you decide to focus on connecting with people, you’ll find it comes naturally.
  • Arrive early and stay late.
  • Greet people as they arrive.
  • Ask people to share things that matter to them.
  • Be interested.
  • Use people’s names (p.52-53).”
