Is resistance a battle to be fought? Are resistors the enemy? Sure, resistance takes time (no one said change leadership was easy). However, how much time is lost if there was a nugget of value buried in the resistance that if recognized would avoid a big problem.
All resistance represents something real. The complicating factor is that the value of resistance is cloaked many times in the whining, nasty, brooding emotional change response. If we strip the emotions away and get down to the root cause of the resistance we can address it. Sometimes the cause of the resistance will lead to an innovation, other times it simply points out a misunderstanding that needs to be cleared up. Resistance — fight it, ignore it, or value it. Make this a conscious choice as a change leader.
